New Year’s Resolutions

HAPPY NEW YEAR! How crazy is it that it’s already 2016? I’m still shocked it’s not 2002 anymore. I don’t think it will hit me until it’s 2020. No, probably not even then. That will be so weird. I want to talk about New Year’s Resolutions. Over the past week, that’s all I’ve heard about. “What’s your New Year’s Resolution?!” “I’m going to start eating healthier!” “I’m going to get 8 hours of sleep every night!” “I’m going to work out every day!” “New year, new me!” What is my New Year’s Resolution? I don’t have one. New Year’s Resolutions are hilarious to…

The Christmas Conundrum

I have to vent about something. I’ve been watching a lot of Christmas movies recently (of course), and something has been bothering me a lot. I think about this every year during the Christmas season, but I never want to bring it up because I don’t want to admit that it’s on my mind. A similar story appears in many holiday films. It goes as follows: there is a real Santa Claus, but adults don’t believe in him. Sometimes, the kids don’t either. In the end, people finally discover the Christmas spirit and realize that Santa Claus is real, and everyone is happy and…

Comparisons

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about comparisons. Comparing ourselves to other people is a bit too common in our everyday lives for my liking. Let’s start with the basics. I see comparisons happening in two main ways. Option 1: We listen to other people talk about themselves and we then, knowingly or unknowingly, compare ourselves to them in our heads. Option 2: We say things about ourselves that are direct or indirect comparisons to other people, whether this is conscious or not. Or, we say something that naturally evokes a comparison-like response. Basically, we all just love to compare ourselves to each…

Serendipity

My Saturday night consisted of curling up on the couch with a homemade pumpkin spice (green) smoothie, a Pumpkin Apple candle burning beside me, and an important movie. I just finished watching Serendipity, and it made me think about a lot of things. That’s how you know a movie is high quality. It makes you think about a lot of things. Obviously, one of those things was serendipity. It’s a big idea, and it’s one that’s pretty scary and overwhelming if you really get wrapped up in pondering it. Is there already a plan for our lives? Do we have any control…

Queen Shonda & Pumpkin Smoothies

Thursday night was the start of #TGIT on ABC, & it was oh-so-lovely. My entire week led up to the start of #TGIT, and I’m not ashamed of that. Great television gets me pumped for life. I’m addicted to ABC shows. They’re amazing. Above all, I have a deep obsession with anything Shonda Rhimes creates. If you see “Created by Shonda Rhimes” in a show’s credits, you know you’re in for a night of kickass television. And you know it’s time to pop open a bottle of wine. I’ve been a Grey’s Anatomy lover since its humble beginnings, back when I was far too young to…
